In any combustion engine, we have a spark plug to combust the gas present in the cylinder. Spark Plug is very useful and without a spark plug, the engine combustion initiation process will become harder.
Officially, most of the decisions related to cars and bikes are not taken by us. They are taken by the manufacturers of the bike or car. There will be a manual for each and every bike or car and we need to follow those instructions for smooth running of the vehicle. Kawasaki bike manual says it is advisable to change the spark plug for every 7500 Kilometers. Yamaha FZ manual says it is advisable to change the spark plug for every 12,500 Kilometers.
They are very inexpensive and so people do not care much about them. They will replace them as often as they want. Some people do not even change the spark plug.
We can even pull out and check the spark plug whether it is completely burnt or in good condition. We can see and determine the condition of a spark plug. There is no need to be an expert to decide that.
There are different spark plugs made of copper, platinum, and iridium. Platinum and iridium spark plugs were invented and developed to elongate and extend the tune up intervals from 60,000 miles to 100,000 miles. The copper spark plugs must be changed every 30,000 miles. People use these spark plugs based on their use and their reduction of work.
With some vigorous research, I came to know that platinum and iridium spark plugs are more resistant to failing when compared to copper spark plugs. I have also found out that the cost of copper spark plugs is less when compared to platinum and iridium spark plugs.
Why does Spark plug fail after some usage?
Spark plugs have an important role in the ignition of an engine in both the cars and motorcycles. Every time the engine is started, some part of the metal on the spark plug gets eroded. A little spark produces the combustion in the entire chamber. The removal of metal increases the voltage in the spark plug which helps to create necessary voltage to fire in the cylinder for the first time.
Some Bajaj’s have also mentioned to change the spark plug for every 55,000 KMS. We need to change the spark plug in regular intervals as mentioned the manual of the automobile. Inefficient spark plug causes the incomplete combustion of the mixture in the cylinder. This also arises improper mixing of fuel and air which in turn causes the reduction in mileage. The acceleration of the automobile also falls down to a greater extent. The life of the engine also reduces due to wear and dust stored in the engine cylinder. The main aim of the spark plug is to provide combustion and without a proper spark plug, the complete engine may also go wrong.
