How a car engine works

Before knowing about the working of a car engine, you should know about the question what a car is.
A car is a vehicle with four tires and an engine, mostly internal combustion engine and has the capability to carry a minimum of one person and a maximum of 16 persons.

Car Engine-

The pickup, speed, and acceleration of the car depend on many parts of the car like exhaust muffler, manifold, type of engine, the number of cylinders and much more.

There are 2 types of engines-

  1. Internal Combustion Engine
  2. External Combustion Engine

Internal combustion engines are the types of engines where the combustion takes place inside the engine. Almost all the modern type vehicles are of Internal combustion engine type.

External combustion engines are the types of engines where the combustion of engines takes place outside the engines. These type of engines are the old type and rear type of engines nowadays.
Even there are different types of engines like Diesel engine, Petrol engines, rotary engines and gasoline engines.

The main parts of a car engine are as follows-

1. Spark Plug–
This supplies a spark at the time of combustion. The time where it produces spark must coincide the mixing of gases into the mixture too.

2. Valves–
Instead of ports, valves are used which can be termed as inlet and exhaust valves. They open and close at a proper time so that the combustion takes place on time and also the exhaustion takes place on time.

3. Piston–
It is a metal piece that moves to and fro inside the cylinder during compressing and expanding.

4. Piston Rings–
These provide a seal for the gases in the cylinder. This does not allow gases to escape to the surroundings. They also prevent the oils escaping out of the cylinder.

5. Connecting Rod–
It connects the piston and the crankshaft. This must be made of unbend-able metal so that the proper working of the engine is attained.

CASE is present at the top and bottom of the cylinder preventing injuries from any damages externally.
Energy stored in Hydrogen is more even than in Gasoline and diesel.

When the car does not work or function properly, the following may be the problems.

The mixing of fuel to the air ratio may be low or high. It causes the jerking and rough movement of the car.
2. The compression of the gas must be quick and efficient so as to ensure proper combustion.
3. The spark produced must be on time or else the combustion may be inefficient resulting in rough motion of the car.
4. Even small parts cause major damages like bearings, exhausts, pistons, batteries and tailpipes.

There are many types according to number- They are as follows-

  1.  4 Cylinder engines
  2. 6 Cylinder engines
  3. 8 Cylinder engines
  4. 12 Cylinder engines
  5.  16 cylinder engines

More the number of cylinders, the more the performance of the car.
The presence of a turbocharger, supercharger, and twin charger may also effect the performance of a car engine.

This includes the braking system, Lubricating system, Cooling system and much more.

This is how a car engine works.
